Mimoe Experiment With Sounds On New EP
Months after switching from gospel music, the music star new EP has a song for everyone.
Mimoe, the soulful singer, impeccable storyteller, and motivator, recently released a new project. His new project comes with a change of name, a stark departure from what he is known for,, and an optimum exploration of sounds and tropes.
I was lucky to have access to the project a week before it was released, while he asked for my feedback on how I felt, I held on to a lot of it. When I tell him everything, what would I have in my review?
At the end of the 16 minutes play, Mimoe made sure he touched almost all the topics. I guess the mandate of this project was to appeal to everyone, he achieved that and had an extra mark.
In the world rife with topics about loneliness and mental health, human beings always need people around, when you have people like that, hold them right, Mimoe sermonized on “Quid Pro Quo”, a google search says it means “a favour or advantage granted in return for something.”
On the title track “Safe Space,” the former gospel singer was on a restitution mission, now on his knees, he seeks forgiveness from his better half. Just like the topic, the beat is somber not even the thumping guitar and shattering drum could resuscitate the mood.
When Mimoe sings, you picture a prime John Mayer and a vintage John Drille at work. On the piano-driven track “Old Friend,” Mimoe is reflective on the past while he looks forward to the future. His vocals and instrumentals competed for attention.
Mimoe sings more in English but the project is sprinkled with African elements, “Right With You'', rode on Agbamole beat, a childhood sampling of nostalgic and love-like themes. The track evokes memories more, especially for the Generation Z peeps.
“Give Dance A Chance,” ends the project with Mimoe taking the listeners to the dance floor—picture nightcrawlers at Quilox or Muri Okunola park.
Mimoe might have switched from gospel to pop, however his new project is a modest fusion that is bound to reach a wider audience if well promoted. He used a stone to kill many birds. For the first-time listener, it was a means of showing them how versatile he can be, for the older fans, it was a beautiful addition to his intimidating discography.
